Data Security
The risk of data breaches is getting worse according to a study by Digital Shadows.

Organisations worldwide are inadvertently exposing 2.3 billion data files due to mis-configured systems, cloud storage services, and a reliance on legacy technologies. This is an increase of 50 per cent over the last 12 months. Around one billion of the incidences were from the EU countries, 262 million more than last year. It is thought that this could be an indicator that the tougher data protection regulations introduced through GDPR have failed to improve some aspects of poor practices.

The exposed files included credit card data, passwords, address data, passport data, bank records, and medical information, the exposure of which increases the risk of identity theft and ransomware attacks. The study found that more than 17 million files have been encrypted by malware since April 2018. This gives potential criminals everything they need to carry out large scale identify fraud.

What this study shows is that when it comes to customer data it is crucial that it is stored in a complaint data platform. Our Customer Data Platform is flexible, scalable, and secure. It is built around our clients’ business and provides an open API to enable seamless integration across the entire organisation. The platform is cloud-hosted meaning it is secure but also has the demand-driven scalability to handle any size data processing job. The aim of our CDP is to bring together all customer data, whether internal or external, structured or unstructured, batch or streaming and stitch it together into unified customer profiles allowing a more comprehensive view with real time capability. Additionally it tightly integrates with external delivery and engagement platforms including marketing automation, social media management or email marketing systems, via pre-built connectors, making it possible to plan campaigns and send messages from the CPD.

As data-driven marketing becomes increasingly prevalent due to technological advances such as data science, businesses are continuing to expand how they collect, store and use customer data and it is critical to keep that data safe.
